Lauren Petrocelli

None of us are perfect - we are all doing the best we can. I am here to help you get more mileage out of the gas that you can afford on a day to day basis, and help you acquire long lasting skills to carry with you throughout a lifetime. My name is Lauren, and I am a third-year master's degree student in the Mental Health Counseling program at Long Island University. I also received a BA in Psychology at Dominican College.

While I have expertise with a wide variety of client concerns, some of my specific focuses include: women with late diagnosis ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, insomnia, domestic violence/abuse survivors, trauma,  PTSD/CPTSD, survivors of narcissistic abuse, and adult children of hoarders.

My therapeutic approach is strongly grounded in CBT, but I typically practice eclectic CBT - which means that while we will stay focused on a practical approach, my ultimate goal is to develop a personalized plan for you. No single approach works for everyone and nor should it. As such, I often utilize elements from modalities like, DBT, trauma-informed therapy, and multicultural therapy, to name a few. What does all that mean? It means that I am here to help you implement practical strategies in your life that cater to your personal goals, but we will work collaboratively to find the best methods to help develop your healthiest self.

We will work towards a healthier mindset and healthier practices at the pace that makes the best sense for you. In session, we will work together to implement techniques that will help you better self-regulate your emotions and monitor and alter negative self-talk, improve your day-to-day functioning, and most importantly, just feel seen. We will work on skills you can carry with you and adapt to new situations. The techniques we implement will be individualized so as to best fit you. This may include challenging negative core beliefs, self-care, mindfulness, and grounding techniques.

As a survivor of DV, I specialize in trauma surrounding abusive relationships, whether with a romantic partner, caregivers, siblings, or other significant relationships. You are not alone. I hope to create a safe sanctuary for each and every client so that they may feel heard, seen and understood. I want my clients to feel as though they have power and control in their therapeutic journey and in their healing, but also that they have a guide that values their well-being over everything. We will be a team and work through each session as one.
